LayerCut

Roadmap

What we're working on now, what comes next, and what's further out. Plans change as we hear from people cutting real projects, so there are no dates here, only order.

Now: getting to version 1.0

The work that turns the beta into a finished product.

  • Signed installers for Mac and Windows. Notarized by Apple and signed for Windows, so LayerCut opens without security warnings.
  • Automatic updates. LayerCut tells you when a new version is out and installs it when you say so.
  • Pro licenses. Buy Pro on this site and unlock it with a license key, with no account needed.
  • Windows polish. Ctrl shortcuts throughout, “Show in Explorer” after export, and other Windows conventions.

Next

Improvements to the build modes and the cut sheets.

  • Living hinge settings. Choose the slit length, gap and spacing for your material, with a small bend test piece to cut first.
  • Grid slices at any angle. Interlocking slices that cross at angles other than 90°, to follow a model's shape.
  • Pick the radial center. Set the center of a radial build yourself, for models that aren't centered on their footprint.
  • Common-line cutting. Where two pieces share a straight edge, cut it once. Saves cutting time and material.
  • Finer rotation when nesting. Turn pieces by less than 90° to fit more on each sheet.
  • More checks before you cut. Warnings for features too thin to survive in stacked layers.

Later

Bigger pieces of work we plan to take on after that.

  • Curve-following slices. Interlocking slices that bend to follow a model's surface, for more organic shapes.
  • More file formats. Open 3MF and STEP models, and export DXF and PDF cut files.
  • LayerCut in the browser. Try LayerCut without installing anything.
